CREATIVE COALITIONS

This program will not take place in 2012.

Creative: making imaginative use of the limited resources available

Coalition: the merging of things into one body or mass

Creative Coalitions will offer two groups of theatre artists the opportunity to spend a week together to share ideas, explore concepts and hopefully germinate ideas, which might grow into performance pieces.

What Is It?

In 2012 two Creative Coalition residencies will be made available.  These residencies will offer employment for up to four artists for a week and the use of the Backspace Theatre if required.

What Do You Get?

Each Creative Coalition can include:

•  One week’s wages for up to 4 artists

•   Cost of travel, accommodation and living allowance for one artist.

This could mean a group of three Hobart based artists and one non-Tasmanian artist or one Hobart based artist and three Launceston based artists or three Burnie based artists and one Flinders Island based artist for example. Artists can all come from the same town but we hope that these residencies will offer an opportunity for Tasmanian artists to share creative time with artists with whom they might not otherwise have a chance to work. TTC strongly encourages approaches from groups of artists living outside Hobart or groups of artists from more than one region of Tasmania.

How Do You Apply?

Groups of artists wishing to apply for a Creative Coalition are asked to submit a short written proposal followed by a meeting with the TTC Artistic Director.

What Does It Cost?

Nothing – At the end of each Creative Coalition, successful groups will be expected to meet with the Artistic Director for a showing or a discussion of the outcomes of the residency.  They will be asked to write a short report for inclusion in TTC’s acquittal to Arts Tasmania.

What Happens Afterwards?

If appropriate, TTC may invite artists who have completed Creative Coalitions to undertake further creative developments as part of TTC’s Commissions and Development Program.  This may lead to an eventual production as part of a TTC season.

When Do We Apply?

Creative Coalitions in 2011 is subject to funding.  TTC has applied for specific funds to make this program available for Tasmanian Artists and will find out the results of this funding in 2011.  Please stay tuned for further announcements.
