What a Flip Top Heart!

October 20, 2008 | In COMMUNITY

FLIP TOP HEART, the (very) short performance festival is over for another year and the Backspace Theatre came to life once again with an eclectic and creative bunch of performance makers each ‘doing their thing’ in under 3 minutes.

We had two circus acts, three burlesque routines, four comedy acts, a gothic dance fusion piece and four short films, all produced, directed and performed by Tasmanians.

Ian Pidd, producer of The Village, was MC for the night and he even did a couple of ukele numbers to add to the variety and the result was a cross art form melee!

This veritable performance feast of short pieces was also a competition and we are delighted to announce the winners:

The grand prize of $1,000 went to “Motherly Love”, an hilarious comedy of love with a dark secret in the tail, performed by Rose Kokkoris and her very tall friend Nick playing her “little” boy.

The Falls Festival Arts Village prize went to two acts – “Bay Watch”, an acro-balance comedy sending up the TV vanity series of the same name; and Matt and Luke doing a comedy routine in a song about love.

The People’s Prize was awarded to the Diamonds of the Burlesque for their routine “Diamond Diner”. This and any of the acts that appeared at Flip Top Heart may well be seen again next year when The Backspace Theatre becomes home to the Flip Top Club.

Visit this website again soon for more details about the Flip Top Club and the Tasmanian Theatre Company’s 2009 season.
