Together with the Glenorchy City Council, the TTC runs workshops in Glenorchy with a group of local people all aged 60+.
This group of about 15 people bring a wealth of knowledge and experiences, to work together with highly talented theatre artists, in an exchange that is culturally rich and productive.
Generations Ensemble Theatre (G.E.T.) grew out of a project opportunity within the 2009 Ten Days on the Island Festival in Hobart’s northern suburbs. The project participants were very engaged by that experience and had a strong desire to set up a permanent ongoing intergenerational theatre ensemble, accessible to a broad range of older people in the local community. They successfully applied to the Australia Council to support ongoing skills development workshops for the latter part of 2009 and early 2010.
Those workshops have been very well supported by older people in the local community, with participation growing from the original 12 to 18 active participants. Through that process they have established a partnership with the Tasmanian Theatre Company and a small scale performance was presented in conjunction with the Glenorchy City Council. We hope to continue these presentations in the future.
G.E.T. has been funded by the Tasmanian Government’s Community Capacity Building Fund in 2011, to create a new work in conjunction with a local high school called Time Travellers, that aims to break down some of the age barriers in the community …and to have a lot of fun!
